All of you on Hospice know that you have to be evaluated every 3 months to see if you are still eligible for Hospice. Ok this is a no win for me. If hospice goes We have to start paying for medicine and supplies for mom again. Which is hard since I am not working and we are living on moms SS with help from my son all the time and brother and sister in an emergancy. But if Hospice stays that means mom is getting worse. I can't see that she is worse because she is so much better than before her eye surgery. The only thing differant lately is her yelling and not sleeping . Which we have been trying to adjust her meds to help with that. Sorry if you have to listen to this every 3 months . But this sure does worry me. Before Hospice we were always short of money. And now we live comfortly. We can keep our extra tv channels , internet and cell phone. We are little spoiled. But if mom is better I am happy. I would love it if she would stay this way for years. She talks to me sometimes and I can understand what she says and she eats good now that I know what she likes "sweets" and she has no pressure sores Which is a big deal for me. The last ones she got were awful. I pray "No More Pressure Sores" Of course keeping her from getting pressure sores sure keeps me from getting a good nights sleep. Oh well, no big deal. After 3 years I am used to it.
Now on a lighter note. Arkansas is playing Ohio in the Sugar Bowl. Go Hogs!!!!

60 degress
It is nice out. I made sun tea. I just had to . Actually I made it yesterday. The sun was shinning.Today not so sunny. Good thing I made it yesterday.
Mom is napping . I vacuumed. And swept the kitchen floor. Our Water hose to the ice maker had a leak so we had a mess yesterday morning in the floor. I turned off the water. And my son took it apart to find the hole. We just have to run to the hardware store to get a new hose and it will be fixed. He wanted to plug the hole or cut the hose at the hole and make it shorter. But he has not done that yet . He had to go do stuff at his Frat. house. They keep him busy on the weekends.Anyway we have lots of ice so no hurry.
Moms nurse starts coming only once a week this next week since mom is not getting any worse. No changes in awhile. The aid is still coming twice a week. I don't care how often they come just as long as they bring goodies. Diapers, handiwipes, med. and such.
If they stop coming I will be up the creek without a paddle. Having to buy all that stuff again will be a pain not to mention having to start taking mom to the doc. again. I don't think mom or me can handle that. I don't want mom to get worse but I don't want Hospice to stop coming. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Lemon Cake
I am eating some of moms birthday cake. It has been a busy morning . The aid came to give mom a bath.So I had to make sure mom had her extra nice pills. If I don't give her a nice pill mom will yell ,pinch and scratch the aid while she is trying to give her a bath. I only give mom an extra nice pill the day the aid or nurse is coming because they make her sleep . And if she sleeps all day I can't get her to eat or drink . That is not good. It is hard enough to get her to eat and drink on a good day.
My sister was here to watch mom so I ran errands after making breakfast. Mom had a fried egg and I chopped up a banana for her finger food. Bananas are messy but they are good for her. I made me and my sister bacon and tomatoe sandwichs. The tomatoes are from my sisters tomatoe plant. They were very good.
The aid brought mom some diapers, whips and gloves. I am so Thankful for Hospice. Mom is no were near end of life but she meets a few of the requirments for Hospice to come out. If not for Hospice we would be short on alot of other things we need to buy . But remember you have to ask your Docter about Hospice because the Docter will not mention it to you untill End of Life.

thank god for hospice
This is my first blog so bare with me.
I have been caring for my mom who as Alzheimer's full time now for over two yrs.
First I went from full time work to part time work to no work at all. Needless to say money started getting short. We ended up living only on her s.s. check after all my resources ran out. No money at the end of the month after medicine, adult diapers , bills and everything esle needed to care for a patient with this nasty disease. Even with no money we still had to many resources for DHS to sign us up for elder choices or medi-cad. I now understand why poor people stay poor. They don't make enough money to feed there family but make to much for help. And the ones that don't work don't work so they won't lose there help. You can't win.
Thank God we have the resources we have we just can't tell that we have to many to be able to get help.Anyway I always thought Hospice was for end of life.
My cousin Nancy told me I had to make moms Doctor call Hospice. I think the Doctor's holds out as long as they can before telling you that you can get Hospice. Any way I called moms doc. and ask if mom could get Hospice and sure enough it worked. I was so mad that moms doctor did not tell me before . It would of saved so much of our lives. Hospice pays for med., adult diapers and all the other things needed for someone with Alzheimer's. A nurse comes over twice a week to check her out and an aid twice a week to give her a bath. We are saved . I now have money at the end of the month. If you need help caring for your loved one call DHS and ask about elder choices.
Now that we have Hospice coming it is so much better for mom.No trips to the Doc. Not as much stress. Thank the Lord and Thanks Hospice. Oh! and thanks Nancy
