Mystery Meat

  • I found out that my mom likes mystery meat. I like hamburger helper myself but its not a mystery.
  • I am talking about the stuff potted meat, hot dogs, Salisbury steak TV dinners , canned corned beef hash and fish sticks are made of. What is that stuff? I started buying it because it is cheap but she eats it. It is still hard to get her to open her mouth but she will eat it better than my homemade stuff. Which is OK with me. I am rarely in the mood to cook. You can get those TV dinners for 88 cents. Can't beat that. I know these things are not very healthy but they are all protein and she has to have her protein to keep those pressure sores away. So I am going to get them .Easy and cheap for me and when she is in an eating mood she eats them . Might take an hour to get her to eat it but better than nothing. A person can't live on Ensure forever. Or maybe they can that is all I get down her somedays.Not Ensure but the cheap stuff.

    Karen, feed your Mom whatever she will eat. She probably likes the taste of the "cheap" stuff because it has a good salty taste to her.

    I'd feed my Mom a diet of Twinkies if that would get her to eat. She, too, is pretty much living on Ensure.

    If your Mom's doctor "prescribes" ensure, you might get medicare to pay for it, at least some of it.

    Sue is lying in bed next to the computer as I type this. I read your post to her. She said that sometimes seniors can get WIC which will provide them with Ensure. I seem to recall hearing something about that somewhere before. You might want to check into it.

    Karen, you're very wise to feed your mom whatever she will eat and enjoy.

    In the past, I was always so conscious of making sure that I prepared healthy foods for David, but now I'm just happy that he still has a good appetite and loves to eat, so whatever he wants...so be it.

    I am SO sorry about not getting back to you sooner than this. I am completely swamped, but it's no excuse when a new blogger finds me. Thank you for the sweet post about my blog.

    I don't know how far back you've read about me, but my grandfather had Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and I know the way a 16 year old girl that loves her papa more than life knows how hard it is, but I have no idea how hard it would be to deal with it like you are.

    As far as your mom's food... at least she's eating. Personally I hope I get to eat something that yummy if and when it happens to me ;)
